The measure of a Christian man—a musing

The measure of a Christian man—a musing

Today is my birthday, as well as my Dad’s birthday (we are born on the same day), and I have had time to reflect on a few things. A long time back I had posted this article on a Christian forum. The people I posted this to and for, only had one question: what does it mean to be a Christian man in a world of sin? And what does it take to be an image of Christ to your family, friends and associates on a daily basis?

In other words, what is the measure of a man of faith?…

A totalitarian government all ready to be in place, just finding a way to get itself in power—complete power! This is the most informative and explosive podcast yet from a man I pray for, that he lives to finish this tale, Glenn Beck. It is a must see for all Americans, whether liberal or conservative!

By executive order, czars without legislative checks and balances, and by the parliamentary exercise of the “reconciliation”, our nation, our future, our freedoms are all being taken away. And it’s not stopping there. Only WE can change this course of the destruction of our republic….

After posting the original article on the “trust and faith” issue, I received a response from my friend Jan Baker. She was, and is, the pastor I was referring to about the whole discussion on Facebook. I think it is a good read, and clarification, concerning what was meant. It always is good to take a second (or more) look at things to get true understanding.

Jan Baker:

“Brother Jonathan I appreciate your wisdom and insight however, I still hold to my answer. I have all of my life had faith in God. Fully persuaded that He is God, my…

On FaceBook a question was asked about faith and trust, whether you can have one without the other. A pastor (and personal friend) had answered that yes, you can have faith WITHOUT trust. I thought about that—and I must admit that I really disagree. I understand the logic behind that summation, I just disagree with the conclusion.

You can not put your faith in something you do not trust.

To be quite honest, with English being such a complex language, we often use “faith” in place of “trust” and the opposite as well. An example: Joe’s car needs a starter…

How should we approach God? After all He is God, Creator of the universe, the Supreme Deity, etc.

It is in, and by, the light of relationship rather than deity only (or any other aspect). Deity invokes religion, and religion is a man-made construct that adheres to man-made rules of doctrine and dogma. So the level you can reach God is based on the level of the doctrine or dogma itself. Religion is the cage wherein many believe God dwells.

But when we look at God through the eyes of relationship we get an entirely differing view. It starts from the…

I am preparing for the Sabbath (Shabbat) and got to thinking about how many people in the last few years have become close to me—and I to then. People that I care about, talk with, laugh and cry with, pray for and pray for me. People that I truly and earnestly CARE about! And yet I have never met them face-to-face.

And some of them are my BEST friends. (Really!)

These are people who have proven themselves in words and deeds that they indeed ARE brothers and sisters in Christ.

John McDonald (God blessed me and I did get to meet…

The vagaries of politics, as usual, flip-flops rule the day. Democrats want to be re-elected, Republicans are smelling victory in November and the Progressives STILL want healthcare to rule the masses. So what is a citizen to do? First, get a clue then second, make a decision, and then last STICK TO YOUR GUNS!

Obama leads the charge of lies, duplicity and lack of a cohesive vision. Pelosi, as second-in-command, fuels the fire and even spouts off that Democrats need to put their re-elections out to pasture to vote on this albatross. Wonder who has guaranteed her re-election?

Are Republicans…

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?" Matthew 15:24-26 (KJV)
