There are many in America who enjoy the freedoms of this country without thought of those whose sacrifice secured those freedoms. Many wave the flag when catastrophe strikes and the valiant respond, but the fortitude of conviction is not in the makeup of their character. Such as those in the political sphere. This is the truth of our government, but not of the governed.
“We the people” must stand for those whose lives are laid bare as the wall against tyranny, and a bastion for God, country, duty, and honor. Duly note the order of the list—God first, as He should be. The make-up of today’s Armed Forces encompasses every walk of life, every shade of color, every aspect of culture, men and women. Ours is a volunteer military, meaning that conviction and love for country are the sole factors that drive the filling of it’s ranks.
A conviction and love for country we must share.
These are not the castoffs of society, the politicos and pundits of government, or the disillusioned and desolate lost generations of self-indulgence, this is the USA at it’s best. These are valiant, the heros, the noble, and examples of all that is good and sacred in this country. It is their commitment to the ideals of freedom, liberty, justice and soveriegnty of our nation, that burns bright in their lives. Lives they gladly give to keep the fires of these virtues alive for generations to come.
There are those who do not understand the power of this commitment, there are those who regulate their endeavors to the medocrity of society, there are those in government who even hostilely stand against them to placate a never satiated enemy committed to our destruction. But still they stand. But still they prevail. But still they protect us even in the face of all that stand against them.
Let us not be of that depravity of character.
I leave you with these words: “Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, ‘What should be the reward of such sacrifices?’ … If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” —Samuel Adams
Be blessed, be loved and be at peace.
